The Centenary of the World’s First Ever Motocross, Enduro, Scramble event to take place in Camberley in March – Entries now open!

Held on part of the original course at Bagshot D1 and D2 military training areas, this historic event will be a commemoration of the world’s first scramble, held in 1924 across Bagshot and Camberley.

The event format is a re-creation of the original first scramble (motocross). Competitors will be split into two groups based on the class entered. Each group will embark on a one-hour session, with riders leaving at 15 second intervals. Competitors will start as many laps as they can in the hour-long session. At the end of the session, riders will have a ‘gentleman’s lunchstop’ as was the case in 1924, heading to the paddock and awaiting their second session. The result will be determined by the rider who has completed the most laps across both sessions, in the shortest possible time – reflective of the original format.

The event will be held for solo motorcycles under the National Sporting Code of the Auto-Cycle Union, these Supplementary Regulations, and any Final Instructions that may be issued for the meeting.

Entries will be open for any bike, just as it was in the original event. To ensure a fair competition, the participants will be split into two groups: Classic and Modern. The Classic group will consist of machines manufactured before 1965, while the Modern group will include bikes from any year thereafter.

In addition to the competition the Surrey Museum will be on site, showcasing a historic display of the last 100 years of MX/Scrambling. This exhibition will provide a fascinating insight into the evolution of the sport and its impact on the wider community.

The Witley club invite all motocross enthusiasts, history buffs, and adrenaline junkies to join us on this momentous occasion. Whether you are a rider or a spectator, this event promises to be an unforgettable experience that celebrates the rich heritage of motocross.

The Course

The course at Bagshot Heath, Surrey, GU15 1PN, will be in excess of five miles with undulating forestry tracks and paths with special sections marked where competitors must pass between the clearly marked ‘commemorative gates’.
